Survodutide: What It Is and Its U.S. Regulatory Status

What is survodutide?

Survodutide is a synthetic peptide developed by Boehringer Ingelheim. It activates two hormone receptors, the glucagon receptor and the GLP-1 receptor, which is why it is called a dual agonist.

Survodutide has been studied in phase 3 clinical trials in people with obesity or overweight. It has also been studied in MASH (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis), a serious form of fatty liver disease.

U.S. regulatory status

Current status: Investigational – not FDA-approved.

An investigational drug is one that is still being studied or has not completed FDA review. Outside of an authorized clinical trial, survodutide is not an approved medicine in the United States.
