Epitalon, also spelled Epithalon, is a synthetic peptide made of four amino acids: alanine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid and glycine (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly). It was developed by researchers in Russia and modeled on epithalamin, an extract of the pineal gland.
Most published research on Epitalon comes from a small number of research groups and has been done in laboratory and animal studies. It has not gone through the large, controlled clinical trials needed for approval.
Current status: Not FDA-approved.
Epitalon is not the active ingredient in any FDA-approved medicine, and the FDA has not found it safe and effective for any use in people.
