FOXO4-DRI is a laboratory-designed peptide. The letters DRI stand for D-retro-inverso, a chemical design in which the amino acids are the mirror-image form and are arranged in reverse order. This design makes the peptide harder for the body to break down.
The peptide was designed to interfere with the interaction between two proteins, FOXO4 and p53, inside cells. Scientists have looked at it in research on senescent cells, which are aging cells that have stopped dividing. Published research on FOXO4-DRI has been largely preclinical, meaning laboratory and animal studies.
Current status: Not FDA-approved.
In practical terms, FOXO4-DRI has not gone through the FDA review that a drug must pass before it can be marketed for use in people. There is no FDA-approved product that contains it.
